Touchdown for Teams that Go Green OurWorldToday

NFL
With the excitement of Super Bowl XLII featuring the Patriots and Giants spreading across the nation, I thought it would be interesting to see if any football teams are as good at going green as they are at making plays on the field.

I found an article that lists a few football teams that are taking it upon themselves to follow green initiatives. The teams listed and their initiatives are:

  • New England Patriots - Purchase renewable energy credits
  • Philadelphia Eagles – Solar panels for training facilities
  • Detroit Lions – Hosted 100% carbon neutral game
  • St. Louis Rams – Joined Waste Management program
  • New York Jets – Open LEED-certified headquarters

You can read more details about the teams’ eco-efforts here.

I think it’s great that at least some major NFL teams and their owners are tackling green efforts, and it’s even better that some players are educating their fans about it.

I can only imagine the day when players like Tom Brady and Brett Favre show up on commercials endorsing hybrids, cell phone recycling programs and alternative energy!

What is leed certified and where are the Chargers and 49ers? I thought everyone in California hugged trees.

Hey LeTigre, LEED certification is the standard for measuring how green a building truly is, as set by the U.S. Green Building Council. I think the Chargers gave it a good fight, but unfortunately they didn't quite make it to the Super Bowl. As for Californians, most of them are tree huggers, but I don't think playing football is one of their greatest strengths!
