Dell’s Record-Breaking Recycling News EcoLifestyle
Posted Jul 07, 2008 by Trish Smith Comments [0]

Dell’s carbon footprint is less than half of its nearest competitor, but maybe that’s because the company has created an eco-friendly bamboo computer, its 2.1 million square foot headquarters building in Austin, Texas is completely powered by alternative energy and it has a Plant a Tree program that reduces carbon emissions.

As an even further reason to like Dell’s eco-efforts, the company announced on its one-year green initiatives anniversary that it had recycled over 102 million pounds of IT equipment in 2007.

What else makes Dell green?

Here are few more interesting facts about the company:

  • There are over 370 free drop-off locations in the U.S. for customers to recycle their computers
  • Over the last 2 years their desktop systems have offset over 24 million tons of CO2
  • New desktops are being designed to consumer 25% less energy by the year 2010
  • Carbon neutral efficiency improvements have saved the company $2 million in operating costs

Along with these green initiatives, Dell has partnered with The Climate Group for a campaign called Together, which teaches everyone about how they can reduce their carbon footprint.

Dell truly is a leader in greening the planet, and we hope that they continue with their green initiatives to inspire other large companies about the environment.
