GM Makes Spain a Bit Greener EcoLifestyle
Posted Jul 11, 2008 by Trish Smith Comments [0]

General Motors is already known for its great line of eco-friendly green vehicles, such as the Sierra 2-Mode Hybrid and the Chevy Malibu Hybrid, but the cars aren’t the only things that are green about this company.

GM just announced that its new Zaragoza plant in northeaster Spain will be the world’s largest plant to use rooftop solar panels.

Are they serious?

Yes GM is very serious.

The rooftop will require a 10-megawatt installation of 85,000 solar panels, whose electricity will also be sold to the local power grid.

By the end of September, GM hopes it will provide enough power for over 4,600 households in Spain.

If this proves to be effective, GM hopes to expand the solar powered rooftops to its other 11 European assembly plants and 8 Zaragoza component plants.

GM already has the two largest solar powered installations in California, so there’s no doubt that they will continue this progress throughout the world.

This will mean great things for alternative energy everywhere.
