Green Sports Cars: Plug in to the Future EcoLifestyle
Posted Jan 15, 2008 by Trish Smith Comments [2]

Most people dream of owning a sleek new sports car with a high-powered engine and a cool design to match. Then again, the people who choose to live green know that sports vehicles are huge emitters of carbon dioxide, so they steer clear of these fast and fancy cars. But what if you could fit an eco-friendly electric car into your green lifestyle that was both sporty and environmentally safe? Would you do it? Of course you would because everyone knows that driving a sports car automatically makes you cool!

So, for all you treehuggers out there whose secret fantasy is to look super cool while saving the planet, Tesla Motors and Fisker Automotive are here to help you out.

The Tesla Roadster is the latest electric vehicle from Tesla Motors. Some interesting facts about it are:

  • Goes from 0-60 mph in 4 seconds
  • Does not use gasoline
  • Can drive up to 250 miles on a single charge

This vehicle is a sports-car lover’s dream come true, and it happens to get an extra thumbs-up because it helps to reduce your carbon footprint! You can read more about the Tesla Roadster here.

Fisker Karma

The word karma basically means cause and effect, so what could be a greater effect of an eco-friendly cause than Fisker Automotive’s new Karma electric car? This full plug-in hybrid has some great features:

  • You can select between Stealth Drive and Sport Drive
  • Goes from 0-60 mph in 6 seconds
  • Has optional full-length solar roof

You can read more about the Fisker Karma, which is set to go on sale in 2009, here.

The only downside to these green vehicles is the price: the Fisker Karma has a starting price of $80,000 and the Tesla Roadster starts at $98,000. Hopefully, if more of these types of vehicles become popular and more are mass produced, then the overall prices will come down and the average person will be able to afford them! Until then, I guess we’ll have to stick to our bikes and stock up on Eco Air Jordans for the long walk to work!

Man that Fisker Karma looks like a pretty sweet ride. Too bad I can't afford it! (well at least not in this lifetime). I've been looking into buying a new car that is somewhat environmentally friendly. Any suggestions on any green vehicles that won't break the bank?

Hey DiscoStu, Unfortunately, most green vehicles have a hefty price attached to them. They usually range from about $13,000 to as high as $100,000. You can read an article about the 10 Best green vehicles here:(http://www.creditpanda.com/blog/2007/the-ten-best- green-cars-for-the-price/). Hope this helps!
