Greenpeace Ranks Greenest Electronics EcoLifestyle
Posted Oct 10, 2008 by Trish Smith Comments [1]

Greenpeace has always been an advocate of eliminating toxic elements from consumer electronics.

The organization recently released its “Guide to Greener Electronics,” and you may be surprised at what companies show up on the top and bottom of the list.

Criteria

Along with the toxicity of the product, some of the new expectations of the electronic companies include:

  • regulation of greenhouse gas emissions
  • use of renewable energy
  • energy efficiency

Rankings

So who scored at the top, meeting most of the Greenpeace 10-point requirements?

nokia phone
The top two winners are Nokia, scoring 7 out of 10 points, and Samsung, scoring 5.7 out of ten points.

And the biggest loser with a measly 0.0 points is...Nintendo! That’s because it has basically no e-waste recycling program and no plans to reduce its greenhouse gas emissions.

You can download a version of the entire Greenpeace report here.

We suggest that you take a good look at this report the next time you decide to purchase some electronics. You might just save your health, as well as the environment.
