Create Your Own Green Abode EcoLifestyle
Posted Feb 20, 2008 by Trish Smith Comments [1]

If you’ve ever wanted to create your own green, humble abode to see just how much energy you consume, how much trash you produce and how much water you waste, then I’ve discovered a cool interactive game that let’s you do just that!

Myabodo is a fun way to see how the living choices that you make, from the car that you drive and the food that you buy to the type of energy that you use, can add to global warming and increase your carbon footprint.

Welcome to My House

I decided to try this out for myself, so here’s the abodo that I created:

Apparently even though I thought I was helping the environment by having a grass roof and growing my own vegetables, I was also consuming a lot of water. It goes to show that one or two choices that you may think are eco-friendly may actually cause more harm to your surrounding environment.

Create your own home at the MyAbodo homepage, and discover its environmental impact.

This is a fun little tool that you can use to become aware of your personal impact on the environment. I also like this because after you design your home and find out what your green weaknesses are, then you can use the Abodo Tools guide, which offers useful tips to help you reduce your carbon footprint.

I don't think this tool is entirely accurate. I do a lot of research on green initiatives myself and the claims this tool makes that washing your dishes by hand uses less water than a fully loaded dishwasher actually goes against everything I've read. If you have an energystar dishwasher than washing dishes by hand usually uses more water than running a fully loaded dishwasher. Also, the 'grass roof' doesn't even effect the calculations at all, it's a great idea but misleading in my opinion.
