SustainLane’s 2008 Greenest City Rankings EcoLifestyle
Posted Sep 24, 2008 by Trish Smith Comments [0]

SustainLane is one of the largest websites devoted to sustainable living, so it’s only proper that they would conduct a study on 50 of America’s biggest cities.

Each city was ranked by its sustainability practices, which include: quality of air and drinking water, roadway congestion, local food availability and park space.

The top 10 most sustainable cities are:

1. Portland, OR

2. San Francisco, CA

3. Seattle, WA

4. Chicago, IL

5. New York, NY

6. Boston, MA

7. Minneapolis, MN

8. Philadelphia, PA

9. Oakland, CA

10. Baltimore, MD

And coming in last is… Mesa, Arizona.

The air quality in the desert is apparently pretty bad.

You can read the Study Overview and see the Entire List of Green City Rankings.

Portland has always been at the top of many “green” lists, so we hope that other cities will try to go greener to give Portland a run for its popularity!
