Northwestern Freshmen Move to Green Dorm

The dorm is called the Group Residence for Environmental Engagement at Northwestern (GREEN), and it’s the most sustainable building on the Northwestern University campus.

But some freshmen who didn’t sign up to live in a green dorm are being place in the eco-friendly building’much to their surprise.

Green Can Be Good

According to The Daily Northwestern, the GREEN dorm was supposed to be 50% freshmen and 50% upperclassmen, but only a handful of returning students decided to live on-campus in the sustainable dorm.

That left a lot of extra green rooms open for incoming freshmen.

Freshman Emily Barth didn’t sign up to live in GREEN, saying “I’ve never been that interested in the environment, but since I’ve been here I’ve definitely become much more interested in learning about it.”

Other students who weren’t necessarily interested in living in an eco-friendly dorm have taken a liking to it and are slowly beginning to understand its purpose. They are proud to be green students.

Here’s the entire article.

It’s definitely a great idea to put freshmen into a green dorm.

They may not be interested in environmental initiatives when they first move in, but once they start living there they start to see just how much of a positive impact they can have on their green campus.
