Where to Find Eco Friendly Dorm Furniture

Green students know that green living is not limited to eating organic food, it must extend to the dorm room as well. Here are some tips on where college students can find eco friendly furniture to jazz up any dorm room.

  • Go Vintage. Look for thrift stores and second-hand shops that sell used furniture at a fraction of the cost. This is a great way to reduce the demand for commercially manufactured furniture and you’ll also be contributing to the decrease in the materials that end up in landfills.
  •  Go Local. There are local craftsmen and furniture makers in almost any city (especially college towns) so be sure to keep your eyes open for shops and handicraft stores in your area.
  • Go online. The easiest and most convenient way to find furniture from anywhere in the country is through the Internet. You will be able to find eco friendly furnishings in websites like Craigslist and eBay and other specialty online shops. You may need to shell out extra cash for shipping but this is generally a more stress-free way to shop for furniture.
  • Yard sales. Look at local listings and ads for yard and garage sales in your area. More likely than not, they have old furniture that they wish to discard to pass on to someone who needs it more. Yard sales often offer items dirt cheap so you’ll be able to buy more for less.

Going the eco friendly route is the best way for green students to remain committed to maintain their green lifestyles. Upon graduation, you have the option to resell your furniture to pass on the eco friendly commitment to new college students.
