Do You Know About Earth Hour 2008?

If you don’t know what Earth Hour is, when it started or who’s involved in it, then here’s your chance to get updated about this amazing worldwide movement.

earth hour

Earth Hour originated in Sydney, Australia on March 31, 2007 as a massive citywide collaboration between people and businesses to reduce energy consumption. By turning off all their lights for just one hour, the people of Sydney reduced their energy use by 10.2%, and they also inspired other countries around the world to do the same.

You can read more about Sydney’s 2007 Earth Hour success at the WWF website.

Now, it’s everyone’s chance to have a global Earth Hour, and it will happen at 8 p.m. on March 29, 2008.

Coming Soon to a City Near You

What was most amazing about Earth Hour 2007 was that almost an entire city’s population participated in this eco-friendly event, and it showed that people could unite together to save the environment.

Supporters in other countries who heard of this then realized that if a single city could get over 2.2 million people to participate in an hour-long event, why couldn’t the entire world participate?

So that’s exactly what this year’s Earth Hour is about: showing how people everywhere can collectively work together to fight global warming.

Get Involved

You can go to the global Earth Hour website, or the Earth Hour U.S. website, and sign up for the March 29 event as an individual, school or organization.

Once you sign up you’ll get email reminders about how you can stay more involved with the event.

By going here you can even see how many people in other countries are participating – Canada is #1 right now!

I hope that you get involved in this great event. It may only take up one hour of your time, but it will raise an amount of environmental awareness that can’t be measured.

So don’t forget to write down on your desk calendar, schedule a reminder in Outlook Express or punch in the date in your iPhone to remind yourself that Earth Hour is only about 3 weeks away!
