Touchdown for Teams That Go Green

NFL

With the excitement of Super Bowl XLII featuring the Patriots and Giants spreading across the nation, I thought it would be interesting to see if any football teams are as good at going green as they are at making plays on the field.

I found an article that lists a few football teams that are taking it upon themselves to follow green initiatives. The teams listed and their initiatives are:

  • New England Patriots - Purchase renewable energy credits
  • Philadelphia Eagles ‘ Solar panels for training facilities
  • Detroit Lions ‘ Hosted 100% carbon neutral game
  • St. Louis Rams ‘ Joined Waste Management program
  • New York Jets ‘ Open LEED-certified headquarters

You can read more details about the teams’ eco-efforts here.

I think it’s great that at least some major NFL teams and their owners are tackling green efforts, and it’s even better that some players are educating their fans about it.

I can only imagine the day when players like Tom Brady and Brett Favre show up on commercials endorsing hybrids, cell phone recycling programs and alternative energy!
